Organizado pelo Departamento de Transferência de Tecnologia e Empreendedorismo da TecMinho, o workshop sobre o modelo irlandês de valorização do conhecimento realiza-se já esta quarta-feira, dia 21 de junho, das 14h30 às 17h, com lugar na UMinho, no Campus de Gualtar (Sala dos Atos do Instituto de Ciências Sociais).
John Scanlan é dirigente do Gabinete de Transferência de Tecnologia da Universidade Nacional da Irlanda - Maynooth (NUIM) e irá orientar os participantes do workshop nos seguintes conteúdos:
- The KT model of NUIM, including the management of 4 public research organisations;
- The Irish KT system and the metrics used for impact assessment;
- New Business Development initiatives and programmes implemented at NUIM.

John Scanlan is director of Commercialisation at Maynooth University. Since creating the office, he has overseen its growth to top performer in Ireland with metrics far exceeding international standards. Currently responsible for TT for a consortium of four academic institutes in Ireland. Played a key role in the foundation of the Innovation Value Institute with Intel. He founded NUIM Connect, a biennial business networking forum linking companies to NUIM.
Secured €1.2m for the development of TT at Maynooth University in 2007 (2007-2012) and secured €1.6m for TT development at the consortium of four HEIs (2013-2016). Also secured €1.2m for the development of a business incubation centre.
Co-founder and CTO of Straatum, a software and hardware supplier to the semiconductor industry with responsibility for IP, product development, partnership and strategic marketing. Straatum spun out from his PhD thesis and was sold to Lam Research in California. Secured €15m in VC funding. Worked for Applied Materials in Edinburgh and California for several years in technology and business development / marketing leadership roles and he has worked in Europe, Asia and USA.
Co-founder and inaugural chair of Irish Technology Transfer and Innovation Group (ITTIG), the organisation of Irish technology transfer professionals and has led innovations such as business partners and concept funding for technology transfer in Ireland.
Co-founded Technology2Market in 2009, and co-founded Inflection Biosciences in 2012. Director / former director of several private companies including Blue Box Sensors, Beemune, TekMark Innovations, Inflection Biosciences, CereBeo and Straatum.
Inventor on 7 US patents. Author of a book chapter for “Biotech Manager’s Handbook: A Practical Guide” and is the author of 13 referred publications and has 3 published articles on innovation / economic development. He has consulted to several companies and public entities on innovation and commercialisation.
